M104 - Large #5 Trunk Latches

A great pair of large #5 old trunk latches or catches in excellent, complete, working condition. These are very old but appear to be unused. These are heavy iron original parts, used on trunks from around 1874 - 1920. They measure about 7 1/2" top to bottom when closed and 3 3/4" wide. These were used mostly on larger size trunks, but I have found some medium size trunks with this large size catch. They can be put on your trunk with trunk nails or rivets and there are four holes on the top piece and three on the bottom part. You can't buy reproductions of this type of trunk latch. These are very strong, heavy pieces and not made of thin metal as some were. Victorian style catches patented in early 1870's. The latches are about the hardest part to find when you need them for antique trunks. Old parts look so much better than reproduction parts on valuable antique trunks.
