T122 - Original French Hat Trunk (Half Trunk), Ca. 1910 - SOLD

$840.00

Size: 22" wide, 21" tall, 17 1/2" deep

Made by the French trunk and bag company, Aux Etats Unis, in Paris, sometime around 1910, and traveled across the Atlantic on the Holland-America Line steamship Rotterdam. A rare size French hat or half trunk, in great original condition, with all the patterned canvas covering, wood slats, and hardware attached with brass nails. It features a solid brass lock with key, iron handles, and the wonderful large label on the inside. This company made trunks and bags for many years, in styles similar to the more famous and much more expensive Louis Vuitton. Owned by someone who traveled First Class on the Holland-America line, which began their steamship line in 1872. This is from the Titanic period, and the Rotterdam also would make port calls in Southampton, England, where the Titanic sailed from in 1912. The original "1st Cabin" sticker on the front is in great condition for being about 100 years old! There is also the original delivery tag on the side with the name M.J.Rothblatt and the address 1326 Madison Ave. (built in 1901) which is still a very nice residence in N.Y. currently for sale at about $1.3 million. The interior is lined with white paper, with some peeling and tears, but is clean and usable for storage. The lid has a red ribbon attached with brass tacks. A great decorator and collector's piece which would look great in many places around the home.

Price: $840 plus $35 shipping by FedEx in the continental U.S. Please email for rates to other areas.
