T123 - Rare Mini Bliss Around the World Trunk

$128.00

Rufus Bliss founded R. Bliss Mfg. Co., which was located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island from 1832-1914. The Bliss company is best known for their highly sought after paper litho on wood toys including doll houses, boats, trains, trunks and building or puzzle blocks. Here's a great example of their colorful lithographed paper and wood toy trunks. It is marked "R Bliss Co." on the front and has a variety of interesting scenes on each side. The top has the name Around The World Trunk in bold red lettering. I image that many children were excited to receive such as special little toy trunk of their own and to imagine themselves traveling to wonderful new places. This circa 1900 mini Bliss trunk is in very good condition overall with just minor loss of the paper covering and some small age spots. It has a small wire and brass latch on the front and the original metal hinges. The interior lid has a beautiful little girl Victorian embossed die-cut picture. The colors on the covering are very nice and mostly red, white, blue and yellow. The scenes include a girl riding her bicycle, a man fishing in a river, a dog sitting on the beach, a sunset with mountains and a man loading a trunk at the pier. Well, here's your chance to have a wonderful little collectible Bliss doll trunk.
