T121 - 1800's Trunk Lock & Key - SOLD 08/2021

A very early antique handmade iron trunk lock with an interesting brass key escutcheon and keyhole cover. It has the original large barrel key and works well. It is in excellent used condition with most of the old black finish! A high-quality heavy duty lock in a style used on American trunks of the early to mid-1800s. The key escutcheon is hand-cut thick brass. The moving keyhole cover is marked twice with Patent. The lock is a rare style because it has an innerspring that pushes a brass piece against the keyhole from inside to keep unwanted items or dirt from getting inside. You can't see that in the pictures but will notice it when you lock or unlock it with the key. You will probably never see another lock of this type.

The base measures 3" wide by 2 1/2" tall and the top hasp is 3 1/2" tall by 1" wide at the top. This lock requires a cutout in the trunk, about 1 3/4" high by 2 1/4" wide for the base. See pictures for details of the shape and condition. A great lock for early antique trunks. Would also look wonderful on an antique style chest or other boxes needing a nice lock. Put on with trunk nails or rivets. Very hard to find especially with the original key! Rare one of a kind lock.
