T126 - Star Trunk Lock & Key

An antique trunk lock marked "Patd April 1877" and with two small star emblems. Made by Star Lock Works of Philadelphia from 1877 to the 1880's and used by many American trunk makers. The bottom lock plate measures 3 5/8" wide and 2 5/8" tall. The top latch piece is 2 3/4" high by 2 1/4" at the widest points (The nail holes are 1 3/4" apart on the top part). A style used on medium and large American trunks from 1877 to the early 1900's. The lock works well with the original Star flat steel key. The lock has a brushed steel finish and can easily be painted if desired. Many of these locks were originally tinned and had a silver look when new. It has brass rivets and a round brass key escutcheon marked with the patent date. Very hard to find complete with a key. A rectangular cutout is required in the trunk for this type lock, about 1 1/4" by 1 1/2" tall. Easily put on with trunk nails or rivets.

Note: You won't see many items marked "Sold" on my pages because I quickly replace them with more antique trunk hardware items. Check back often for updates.
