T100 - Rare Romadka Monitor Trunk - SOLD 11/2019

Size: 32" wide, 25" tall, 21" front to back

A high quality monitor top Romadka Brothers trunk from about 1888 to the early 1890's in excellent restored condition! This was a top of the line trunk with thick wood slats and ornate cast metal hardware, designed and patented by the Romadka Brothers of Milwaukee, a prominent trunk maker of the time. It has special features of high end trunks including lots of ornate cast hardware, tooled leather covering, fancy embossed metal, a double latch lock with working key, and a lift out tray with several compartments. It has the original deep wooden tray with its cover and two Victorian prints. The tray has three compartments including a long one in the rear for umbrellas or parasols. (See detailed pictures) Romadka produced some very high quality trunks with their own hardware designs and this is a wonderful example. It has cast metal hardware that only the Romadka company used, including leaves, stay hinges, and what they called "skeleton" style clamps on the slats and edges. The interior was completely cleaned and relined with high quality fabric The exterior of the trunk was carefully cleaned, the leather treated with conditioner, all the metal was primed and repainted, and the cast hardware was cleaned. There are only a few small spots where the leather has some wear and has been repaired. The inner lid has the original colorful pictures and pocket for letters and papers. It has an ornate double hasp lock with one key, strong metal slat clamps and hinges, and the iron bottom rollers. The wood was hand finished with high quality satin tung oil finish which will protect it for many years to come. A great collector's and decorator's item that will certainly be a conversation piece. It's very strong and impressive and great for storing many treasures! It has the original stitched leather handles which are still intact. No hardware has been changed or replaced on this trunk! These trunks are rare in such excellent and complete condition. The bottom is in excellent condition and has been cleaned and repainted also. Please see the details in the pictures and email if you have any questions about any of my trunks. I have spent many years doing research on trunk history, hardware, and patents so that you can get the correct historical information about the trunks I restore. The buyer will be provided a copy of the actual patent documents related to the Romadka hardware and a page from an 1880's Romadka trunk catalog showing this style trunk! What other trunk seller can do that? I see lots of incorrect information being given out on antique trunks, especially on some online auction websites and even on wikipedia. I also have copies of several rare antique trunk catalogs available on the Research page. This is a rare style Romadka trunk and the first of it's type that I have ever had or seen.
