T130 - Rare Dutch Hat Trunk, 1920's - SOLD 08/2018

Size: 20" wide, 21" tall, 20" deep.

This old trunk is the only trunk that I've ever had from the Netherlands. It's from a company called Huijsen Trunks & Leather Goods (Koffers and Lederwaren) located in The Hague (Den Haag) the Netherlands. See the original brass label on the top front. These small cube-shaped trunks were typically made to carry special ladies hats and bonnets, gloves, scarves, and other small items. This trunk never had an inner tray. Wealthier folks of the time would usually travel with several trunks, not just one. This size was made from the mid-1800's and continued to be made into the early 1900's by many trunk makers including Louis Vuitton. They are always listed as hat trunks in their catalogs. I don't get this rare type very often and this one has a unique look with the dark green metal covering brass plated hardware and the thick wood slats. All of the hardware, locks, and hinges are all original. There are two fancy brass locks, but I do not have a key. The interior was carefully cleaned and preserved, with the original paper lining and beautiful small print of a girl sitting on her trunk waiting for the train. There are wear and signs of age as would be expected for a vintage trunk. Quite an interesting trunk, a true collector's piece! Please email if you have any questions.

Price: $375 plus $35 shipping in the United States, by FedEx Ground. Personal delivery available to some areas and pick up is always an option too.
