$1,295.00

Size: 36" wide, 31" tall, 22" front to back

A high quality barrel top Romadka Brothers Saratoga trunk from about 1885 to the early 1890's in excellent restored condition! This was a top of the line ladies trunk designed for the fashionable lady of the 1880's and comparable to a "Bride Trunk" model. A beautiful trunk with thick wood slats and ornate cast hardware, designed and patented by the Romadka Brothers of Milwaukee, a prominent trunk maker of the time. This trunk has the special features of high quality trunks including lots of ornate cast hardware, fancy embossed metal, solid brass lock with working key, and a lift out tray. (The tray is a wooden replacement with fabric covering) Romadka produced some very high quality trunks with their own unique ornate hardware and this is a wonderful example. It has several patterns of the cast metal hardware that only the Romadka company used, including leaves, bird heads, cathedral window, and what they called "skeleton" style clamps. The large high round top trunks were often called Saratoga trunks by the makers, first named after Saratoga Springs, NY where wealthy ladies would have extended vacations. The interior was completely cleaned and relined with high quality fabric with an old travel theme (early trains, luggage, etc.). Please see pictures for details. The exterior of the trunk was carefully cleaned and all the metal was primed and repainted, and the cast hardware was cleaned. It has a fabulous brass Star lock with one key, strong metal slat clamps and hinges. The trunk was hand finished with high quality satin tung oil finish which will protect it for many years to come. A great collector's and decorator's item that will certainly be a conversation piece. It's very strong and a large size which is very impressive and great for storing many treasures! Original style custom made stitched leather handles have been installed. No hardware has been changed or replaced on this trunk! These trunks are rare in such excellent and complete condition. The bottom is in excellent condition and has been cleaned and repainted also. Please see the details in the pictures and email if you have any questions about any of my trunks. I have spent many years doing research on trunk history, hardware, and patents so that you can get the correct historical information about the trunks I restore. The buyer will be provided a copy of the actual patent documents related to the Romadka hardware and a page from an 1880's Romadka trunk catalog showing this style trunk! What other trunk seller can do that? see lots of incorrect information being given out on antique trunks, especially on some online auction websites and even on wikipedia. I also have copies of several rare antique trunk catalogs available on the Research page. This is a rare style trunk and the first of it's type that I have ever had to sell.
