T114 - Rare Barrel Top Hat Trunk - SOLD 02/2017

Size: 26" wide, 25" tall, 17 1/2" deep front to back

An early barrel top ladies hat trunk from the 1880's in excellent restored condition! A very high quality trunk and scarce size, complete with the original inner tray with lid. This was made by Moses Cherry, a prominent trunk maker of New York City for many years! This trunk has 1882 patented cast iron latches, solid brass slat clamps, and a high quality brass lock with the working key! A great looking trunk with beautiful thick wood. They called these a "Barrel Top" trunk when they were made (not dome top, camel back, or steamer trunk). New thick leather handles have been installed using the original ornate iron handle holders. The interior bottom was completely cleaned out and relined and the original wood tray was refinished and the lid recovered, while preserving the original linen and label in the lid center. The trunk is solid and strong but does show some signs of age and use as expected for a 130 year old antique. Please see the details in the pictures and email or call if you have any questions about any of my trunks. I have spent many years doing research on trunk history, the hardware and patents so that you can get the correct historical information about the trunks I restore. I see lots of incorrect information being given out on antique trunks, especially on some online auction websites and even on wikipedia. I also have copies of several rare antique trunk catalogs available on the Research page. Contact me if you have any questions, email Marvin@ThisOldTrunk.com
