T108 - Unusual Handmade Child's Trunk, 1909

$495.00

Size: 20" wide, 14" tall, 14" front to back.

A very unusual and rare style of a child's trunk made in 1909! It is truly adorable and has handmade fancy metal trim, wooden slats, and tack designs. This little trunk was specially made and given to a boy named Johnnie for Christmas in 1909, which is handwritten in ink on a colorful card put in the lid with brass tacks. This can easily be removed and is shown taken out in one picture. The card shows an eagle, American and British flags and heart designs in each corner. The trunk is heavy for it's size and made very well and strong and with hardwood slats and iron trim and three hinges. What is especially unusual about this beautiful little trunk is the decorative trim including a large brass and steel tack star design on the lid and the unique slat design. All of the trim and hardware are original to this small trunk, plus it has the original inner wood tray and interesting fabric lining. This is in such good condition that we would not think of removing the old burgundy fabric covering the trunk. The iron and brass lock is marked Corbin and has the original steel key! The key is not in the pictures, but does come with the trunk. The lock is the type that will latch closed and appears to be locked, but only locks when you use the key to lock it. The ornate iron handles on the trunk are a style we have never seen before. The two front catches are brass and have a nice old patina as does the rest of the trunk. Great for display, storage of small keepsakes, or use with your doll collection. A one-of-a-kind early child's trunk!
