T113 - Rare Jenny Lind Red Leather Doll Trunk - SOLD 03/2024

A rare Jenny Lind toy, sample, or doll trunk of the 1850's to 60's. These are extremely hard to find, especially so complete! It has an elegantly curved figure eight shape which is not often found on these miniature trunks. This one has most of the original red leather covering, five paper bands with brass tacks and a fancy brass lock cover. The lock is complete with the original key and does work! The leather handles have been replaced as they would have been. There are small iron hinges which are the originals. The interior has the old paper lining, original wood tray, and the drop down compartment in the lid. (See detailed pictures). It also has two beautiful old lithographs. Perfect for display with your fashion dolls or miniature trunk collection, as a special jewelry box, or as a great conversation display piece!

A true piece of American history related to Swedish singer Jenny Lind who toured the US from 1850 to 1852 with P.T. Barnum. These special little trunks were well made and used by children and ladies, but were not something everyone could afford. The trunk is all wood and the bottom is in very good condition. The dark red leather covering is original and shows hand tooled designs. There is wear to the leather covering and trim, as expected for a 150+ year old trunk. There is a spot on the top where leather is missing and the surrounding leather was carefully glued down. It does not show too much but I want the next owner to be aware of this. The interior has some worn or missing spots of the lining. The overall condition is very good and the trunk displays very well. Please see all the pictures for the condition details.
