T103 - Jenny Lind Stagecoach Trunk 1860's - SOLD 06/2023

Size: 27" Wide, 15" Tall, 14 1/2" front to back.

This is a beautiful Jenny Lind or Stagecoach trunk of the 1860's. It's a Civil War period trunk and some of these were used during the war. They were first made by American trunk makers about 1850 based on historical documentation and became known as Jenny Lind trunks by later 1850's after her American tour. This has the unique keyhole or figure eight shape which is very elegant. This one has five metal bands with the original large brass buttons and a nice original brass lock cover (no key). The interior of the trunk is all natural wood which was cleaned and finished. The upper lid compartment is complete and the lift out tray is present. The side handles are replaced in the original style with thick strong leather. The trunk is structurally very sound with a beautiful finish. A true piece of American history related to the Swedish singer Jenny Lind. These were made during and after her extremely popular U.S. tour in 1850 to 1852 with P.T. Barnum. Many items were named after her in the following years and she remained very popular until her death. The trunk is well made and strong and the bottom is in excellent condition also with wood slats and the original iron rollers.
