L120 - Antique Trunk Lock & Key

An antique trunk lock marked with a patent date of March 24, 1891. A type first made by Star Lock Works of Philadelphia in 1877 and used by many American trunk makers. This is just a later updated version of that lock. The bottom lock plate measures 3 1/2" wide and 2 5/8" tall. The top latch piece is 3 1/4" high by 2 1/2" at the widest point (The nail holes are 2" apart on this part). It's a style used on medium and large size American trunks from the 1890's through the early 1900's. The lock works well with the original flat steel key. The lock has a brushed steel finish and can easily be painted if desired. Many of these locks were originally tinned and had a silver look when new. It has brass rivets and a round brass key escutcheon marked with the patent date. Very hard to find complete with a key. A rectangular cutout is required in the trunk for this type lock, about 1 3/4" by 2" tall. Easily put on with trunk nails or rivets.

Note: You won't see many items marked "Sold" on my pages because I quickly replace them with more antique trunk hardware items. Check back often for updates.
