L113 - Antique Trunk Lock & Key

An antique trunk lock with one working barrel key. The lock is in very good used working condition and it has the steel spring on the back which pushes the top hasp piece out when it's unlocked. It is marked on the top hasp piece "Johannesburg Trunk Factory (PTY) LTD.". The lock was most likely made by Eagle Lock Co. as it is exactly like locks they made and they made locks for many trunk makers. It also uses an Eagle barrel key.(Most trunk companies did not make any of their own hardware or locks). Obviously there was a trunk factory in South Africa at one time. This measures a total of 4 3/4" tall and 4" wide when locked, measured edge to edge. This is a surface style lock and does not require a hole in the trunk. Made of heavy stamped steel with steel rivets. This was originally brass plated but it is now brushed steel since most of the plating was worn. It can easily be painted if desired. A very popular style lock and used by many trunk makers on all types of trunks from the 1890's to 1930's.
