L102 - Brass Antique Trunk Lock - SOLD 09/2023

A rare, high-quality brass antique trunk lock in very good used condition! The top hasp, faceplate, and key escutcheon are made of heavyweight solid brass. The back lock mechanism is iron and steel. The original uniquely shaped barrel key works perfectly. The lock is very well made and has nicely beveled edges.

The base measures 5 1/4" wide by 3 3/4" tall and the top latch/hasp is 3 3/4" tall by 3 3/4" wide to the edges.

The lock is unmarked but is similar to early trunk locks patented in the late 1860's. This features a special sliding keyhole cover with a secret opening method, which will be given to the buyer! It also has built in springs which push the hasp out when opened. It does not lock automatically which is great to keep someone from accidentally locking things or the key inside. This lock requires a cutout in the trunk bottom about 2 3/4" high by 2 3/4" wide. The lock has a few small dings and light scratches but no corrosion or other damage. A fabulous lock for high quality antique trunks of the 1860's through the early 1900's. Very hard to find especially with the original key!
