Stallman Theatrical Dresser Trunk, Ca. 1890's
Here is an interesting theatrical dresser trunk in excellent original condition. I originally bought this trunk to remove the canvas covering and refinish, but when I started cleaning it up I realized it is in great original condition and would be best preserved this way. So, I have cleaned and finished the beautiful hickory wood slats and carefully cleaned up the trunk to maintain the original charm and character of the trunk. It has minimal signs of wear, mainly some worn paint, which just give it a great true antique look. These trunks are hard to find, but even harder to find totally complete and in such great condition. The pictures don't really do it justice in my opinion. The size is great for many areas, measuring 32 1/2" wide by 23" tall by 21" deep. It has catches on the front and two on each side. The original brass plated lock even has the key! The interior has three drawers, a fold down compartment in the top, a beveled glass mirror, shoe compartments on the bottom, and even the original Stallman label in the top. The bottom is really clean and with the four large metal rollers. The leather handles are a little worn, but still pretty strong and so have been preserved also. The interior is clean with very little wear and no odors. I doubt you would find another trunk of this type is such good condition. These great trunks were popular with traveling theatrical groups and circus performers. Own a fabulous piece of history!
