Romadka Half Trunk / Hand Trunk, Ca. 1880's-90's
This little trunk is sometimes called a "hand trunk" since it could be
carried with one hand with the top handle, and sometimes called a "half
trunk" since it's about half the size of the regular shape trunks. You can
decide, but this one sure is a beautiful and rare trunk in excellent
condition. This measures 18 1/2 inches wide, 15 inches tall and 13 1/2
inches deep. The wood is cherry, which is quite unusual for trunks, with two
oak slats on top, and it has wonderful color and grain. There is no damage
to the wood and all the hardware, lock (no key), catches, hinges, etc. are
original. The top handle has been replaced with strong original style
leather. The bottom is very clean and solid with three wood slats. The trunk
has a hand rubbed satin tung oil finish, which has a real antique patina
look. The interior and lift out wood tray has been lined with a Victorian
style fabric leaving the original maker's label is in the lid. The small
round label has "Romadka's Baggage Makers, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Fort
Wayne". There is also a small chromolithograph picture in the lid. Just
email if you have any questions or would like more pictures.
