Flat Top 1890's Trunk with Cedar Tray
A beautiful pine trunk with thick oak or chestnut slats which
would make a great coffee or side table. It measures 30" wide by 19 1/2"
tall by 17" deep. It is circa 1890 to 1900 and is complete with the original
hardware including the lock and working key, hinges, latches, handle
holders, and bottom rollers. There are small metal rollers in the bottom
slats that are still in great shape. I have made a special replacement
wooden tray of solid cedar boards, which is very attractive and aromatic.
This would be wonderful for blanket or clothes storage. The rest of the
trunk interior is lined with fabric of blue shades which coordinates with
colors in the original Victorian print in the lid. The print is a hunting
scene and can be seen in one of the detailed pictures below. The handles are
replaced with heavy stitched leather handles, dyed to look more original.
There are the natural signs of age as with most early trunks, such as a
couple very thin cracks, but nothing that detracts from it's beauty and the
trunk is very strong. The trunk has a final finish of hand rubbed satin tung
oil which is water resistant and a very smooth antique look. |
