French J. Penet Steamer Trunk, Ca. 1900 This interesting French travel trunk was made by J. Penet, Articles de Voyage, 52 Rue de LaFayette, Paris, and is in excellent original condition. It is made similar to the fashionable and very expensive Louis Vuitton trunks of the same period, with lots of solid brass trim, two brass locks (with 2 original keys!), original leather handles on three sides, thin bentwood slats with brass trim, and lift out tray. The interior is lined in fabric and it has the original maker's label. It has a few spots but is in great shape for it's age. The wooden trunk is covered in a black canvas type material. The wood slats have corner bumpers made of a hard fiber material made to resemble leather but is more durable. The trunk is 39" by 13 1/2" tall by 21" deep. This could be used flat as a coffee table, or stood on end as an interesting display piece. If interested in raising it a little for a table, large wooden feet can be made available for an additional fee. I have never found one of these in such excellent original condition. Please email if you have any questions or would like more pictures sent. Price: $495 plus $25 shipping by FedEx Ground in the continental U.S. |
