Fabulous Thoroughbred Tack Trunk, Ca. 1870's

This is a rare historic Tack Trunk from the Bloodgood Horse Farms of New England. The Bloodgood horse farms of Massachussetts and New York bred thoroughbred race horses during the mid to late 1800's and competed in the famous horse shows of their day, such as Madison Square Garden, New York. This trunk has survived in excellent original condition and is the only one I have seen of it's type in my 35 years of trunk restoration. It has all the original brass button trim (same as used on Jenny Lind trunks of the 1850's - 1870's), fancy iron handles and original paint. It even has the old working lock and original key! The trunk is a great size for use as a coffee table, side table, or blanket chest. It is 35" wide, 19" tall and 18" deep. It is made of very thick wood (some a full inch thick) and is quite sturdy with it's large square nail construction. The paint is original as found and has the name " H.C. Bloodgood, C.S. New York, No. 45" painted on each end. I think C.S. stands for Centre Station. The top and front also have a colorful painted section with "45" painted in it. I believe this indicated the horse that the trunk was used for. The trunk is very clean inside, with no odors, and is suitable for storing all types of items. The paint is in excellent condition, outside and inside lid, for it's age, with only some small age spots and imperfections here and there. The iron hinges are in excellent condition and very strong. There are about 50 original large brass buttons on the trunk, which have been lightly cleaned to shows their real beauty. This would be great for the horse enthusiast or anyone interested in owning a rare and unique antique trunk. Even new tack trunks of this size can range in price from $800 to over $1000.

I accept payment by the PayPal System (credit card or bank transfers) or business and personal checks. Layaway is available with a downpayment of 25% and the balance within 60 days. Please call if you have any questions.
