Brass Eagle Trunk Lock with Key, 1892
Here is a fantastic old solid brass Eagle trunk lock with it's original marked barrel key and lock plate, circa 1892. The lock is marked "Eagle Lock Co. Terryville CT. Pat. Dec. 6, 1892" on the front. The lock and locking plate are both in excellent polished condition and the original key works well. The key is also stamped "Eagle Lock Co." This is 6 1/4" in total length (top to bottom) and is 2 1/8" wide at the top and 2" wide at the bottom. The top plate is 3" wide and 2" top to bottom. I rarely find these fancy bottom brass trunk locks and only one is available. (I wish I could find many more of these!) These were sold by Eagle Lock Co. to many U.S. trunk maker's during the 1890's to early 1900's and they were used on a wide variety of trunks, but the brass locks such as this were normally reserved for only the highest quality trunks.
This comes with new brass trunk nails which is the way the locks were attached. They are hammered trough the wood and them "curled" over on the inside back into the wood. You can also use rivets, but screws were never used (well hardly ever) on old trunks.
Many people have mistakenly thought the name on a trunks' lock was the company that made the trunk also. For American made trunks this is rarely the case as most trunk makers bought locks of many types from Eagle, Corbin, Yale, Excelsior, Star, and other lock and hardware makers.
Price: $85 includes postage in the continental U.S. (If you don't need the top locking plate I will reduce the price to $75, shipping included.)
