1890-1900 Flat Half Trunk This beautiful and rare wooden "Half Trunk" has a brass label on top marked "J H McNamara & Co. Makers, 40-42 Monroe St. Chicago". That location is near the center of downtown Chicago, but the company is long gone. The trunk is in excellent condition and very strong with heavy hardware and hardwood slats finished with a satin tung oil finish. The top leather handle has been replaced like the original. All hardware, catches and lock (no key) are original and in good condition. It measures 19" tall, 17" deep by 22" wide. The original all wood tray is present and has also been refinished. I am in the process of lining this trunk in a nice floral print fabric, which will be done soon. This is a very nice and attractive trunk which can be used in so many ways! Price $525 plus $25 shipping in the US (you can also pick up trunks in Nashville if desired). |

Rare Brass Bound Jenny Lind, ca. 1850's This classic leather covered Jenny Lind style trunk is in original condition and you rarely find these any more. This beautiful rounded shape with the brass trim was made famous by the "Swedish Nightingale", singer Jenny Lind, who toured the US in 1850 to 1852. Black leather covers an all wood body, with 5 brass bands and all the original large brass studs. The leather has some "tooled" designs but are a little faint in spots. The fancy solid brass lock is marked, "J. Terry & Co. Terryville, Conn." The heavy leather handles are still in good shape and attached with large brass studs also. The interior has the top fold down section with a letter pocket. The tray is missing. The original paper is worn and torn in some spots. I am offering this trunk "as is" for the historical purist who appreciates the value of it's original condition. The trunk is really a museum piece. (the recently published Antique Trunks Price Guide, by Paul Pat Morse, values this trunk at $1,200 - $1,600+ ) But, I will also strip and refinish the trunk to the warm pine finish if desired for an additional fee, or you can do it on your own. The trunk is in good condition for it's age but does have the expected aging, the leather has a few small tears and imperfections and the paper lining is worn. The wood appears to be in excellent condition without breaks, rot or other damage. I have the original interior lock piece so that the trunk can be locked also when it is reinstalled. The brass has not been polished and does also have expected signs of it's age, but overall the trunk is about the best of this style that I have ever seen. The trunk bottom is solid and in very good condition. More pictures can be sent if seriously interested. Email if you have any questions. Pricing options:

1840's Gold Rush Trunk. This is
an authentic and beautiful 1840s -1850s gold rush trunk, a real historical
item! You don't see nice ones like this very often, in such good
condition. The trunk has all it's original 35 solid brass buttons (which
symbolized gold nuggets) and original heavy leather trim and handles. The
trunk is made of thick wood which has a satin finish and has original
metal trim and handmade iron lock (no key). This is 14 1/2" tall by 14"
deep by 24" wide. There are a couple thin cracks in the wood which are
common in most early trunks, but the trunk is very solid and strong. Small
rollers have been added to the bottom and the trunk is lined in a nice
soft green fabric, ready to use in any room. Shipping would be only about
$20 on this trunk. |
